"Sometimes the shoemaker's kids are walking barefoot ..."
Sometimes, the obvious is right in front of us and it doesn't click for some time. Then, we have an "ah-hah" moment and we can never go back. For some time now, I've been working on a super-charged (expensive) laptop to run my business. But, it took some time to discover something was slowing me down. It was the small screen! There is only so much real-estate space for different programs, copy & paste, and overall multi-tasking. Every time I needed to change my focus, I no longer could see everything at the same time. I needed to either minimize or close -- and important items fell between the cracks.
So, last week, I bought a large monitor as a 2nd screen, which towers over my laptop. It's such a pleasure dragging items from one screen to the other and being able to multi-focus. It's also better for my posture. Think of it like this: We accept having limited space when on a flight economy seat, but in the comfort of our homes, we need more space.
This get's me to our next Einstein moment: Several clients have ordered port replicators (a.k.a. docking stations). With one plug into your laptop's USB, suddenly you have a second screen AND an external keyboard AND external mouse and possibly other goodies. It sort of transforms your laptop into a desktop for the office experience. This especially comes in handy if you work much from home and the office and need that portability.
