Usually, we think of redundancy as a bad thing. Employees who are redundant, are let go as they're no longer needed. But, there is a good type of redundancy -- when you provide your company with a "plan B" method of keeping everything working should technology or any other critical peice of your organization stop working.
Here are THREE redundancies that are worth thinking over:
1. Extra PC: Whether in a small business or home environment, there is a good chance that a desktop or laptop will fail. Instead of fighting over sharing or having an employee sit idle until a new PC is purchased & setup, always have a spare PC ready to be used, just in case.
2. Store files in multiple places: Accept the fact that computers fail. Don't store your critical files in only one place. Keep a 2nd copy on another computer, external USB hard drive/flash drive, in the cloud (Google Drive, Dropbox, Carbonite or similar).
3. Backup Internet: Sometimes your ISP (Internet Service Provider) might go down and then your business will come to a standstill or your kid's home work will not be handed in on time. Some companies have a hotspot ready to go as a backup source of Internet. They hope they don't need it (like an insurance plan), but by having it ready, they don't miss a beat.
What are you doing to protect yourself & your business to create redundancy?
