Are Your Computers Corona-Ready?

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT FROM COMPUTER CURE, MD

There is a Chinese curse which says “May you live in interesting times.” Like it or not, we are living in interesting times. They are definitely times of uncertainty. Here are some common sense computing ideas to make sure your home computers are “Corona-ready”:

The odds are that in our new reality, most of us will be spending more time on our computers & phones instead of interacting with real humans in close proximity. Considering that these devices are probably used by multiple family members – and likely have not been cleaned in some time, it’d be a good idea to disinfect them. It is beyond the scope of this newsletter, but please Google the right way to disinfect electronics so as not to damage them.

As schools are closed, our kids will be online more than we would normally be comfortable. As kids have the uncanny ability to go to some sites “off the beaten path”, it is recommended that you have a good up-to-date active anti-virus on your PC.

If your children are spending more time online, the necessity of proper Internet filters becomes more pressing. There are many good products that can protect them & keep you in the loop. As always, it is best to have the family computer in a public high-traffic location as opposed to hidden in an off-the-beaten-path room. Obviously, laptops & tablets which are portable pose a whole number of issues. It is best to insist on their usage exclusively in the public parts of the house.

Will your kids be taking part in some sort of online schooling? I am in touch with several schools & companies that are gearing up for such programming. Last, many of us will be working from home in the near future. Are you ready to work remotely? Do you have a webcam & microphone ready for such meetings? Do you have access to office resources?

If you are unsure if you are ready to work remotely or need help with anything else here, please reach out to us. Thank you.
